More uninformed people on C-SPAN

A very uninformed viewer who phoned Washington Journal recently claimed that the International Space Station costs $4 trillion. Holy crapoli! Last I heard, only $100 billion was spent on the ISS during its nearly 10 years of operation. And I'm sure that far less than $4 trillion has been spent on NASA during its 50-year history. Ironic that a person who doesn't know the difference between a retrorocket and a retrovirus can so suredly proclaim such a massively false statement about the space program.

well maybe it is 4 trillion starting from the start back in 1958.

here is an excerpt from a breif history of nasa link:

"An Act to provide for research into the problems of flight within and outside the Earth's atmosphere, and for other purposes." With this simple preamble, the Congress and the President of the United States created the national Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on October 1, 1958. NASA's birth was directly related to the pressures of national defense.

    notice the last statement:

NASA's birth was directly related to the pressures of national defense.

(by the way.. In 1949 the National Security Act was amended to change the name of the National Military Establishment to the Department of Defense ).

I'll look up the figure later, but I very much doubt that NASA spending throughout its 50-year history -- even when you put it in current dollars -- is $4 trillion. I think I can say with considerable confidence that the U.S. military has spent at least $4 trillion since the start of the BuchCo adminstration. A month's expeditures for U.S. military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan is roughly equal to one year's expenditures on the U.S. space program.

some of those 4 trillion spent in warring mesopotamia is being recycled by the locals.. picking up arsenals.. metal scraps.. etc.. and selling it to recycling venues for good gain... except the depleted uranium material that the compassionate conservatives decided to dispense around Iraq.. already claiming radioactive related deaths to civilians..and the casualties will continue for the tens of thousand years half life that uranium has..

..this may be how long the arabs will keep hating the US from the damage they will keep on incurring..

I think the US should be held accountable and be made to clean up, or pay for the clean up of all the radioactive toxic waste for its illegal ways.. perhaps another trillion to clean up the mess.. (if it is actually possible)... I know that the US has done little for the angent orange terror inflicted in vietnam!

        war is just freaking insanity!!

This morning (10-4-08), one Washington Journal viewer claimed that Michelle Obama was born in Iran. Another called Barak Obama a terrorist. Of course either person provided compelling evidence to prove their (inane) cases.
